So I have been MIA for a while now. I have been off work since Friday the 21st and took a nice break from the computer. Now the year is coming to a close, and I couldn’t be happier. I know there is no magical shift when the clock strikes midnight that changes everything and voids the previous year. I get that. But 2012 has just not been a fun year and I’m going into 2013 with the mentality that “it has to get better.” Nobody is allowed to die. Or fight. Everyone has to be happy. And if you want to have a baby, you get to.
We are closing 2012 off right though. We have had several Christmas celebrations through the week and it has been so much fun! Tonight Stephen and I are having a date. JUST THE TWO OF US. Unbelievable.
Here is a photo recap of our week. Well, mostly it is a photo recap of Jansen’s week since we no longer have identities outside of him.
Jansen decorated Christmas cookies for the first time. We squeezed frosting on a reindeer cookie (he bit the legs off the instant we gave it to him) and then he spread it around with a knife. He learned that as you spread, icing collects on the knife, and then you can lick it. So basically he just ate frosting off of a plastic knife.
My mom wanted to get a photo of his creation so we had documented proof of his first experience decorating Christmas cookies. He was not interested in photos, he was interested in eating.
We spent a few days in San Antonio with Stephen’s parents and ones of his sisters and her husband. The weather was gorgeous, the atmosphere was fun, and we had a great time. One night we met up with Molly and her family and Stephen’s cousin and his family for dinner. Jack and Jansen are best friends, but only Jack is aware of it. (Jansen’s belly in this picture CRACKS me up!)
Because we were in San Antonio, we visited that Alamo. It was right by our hotel so we walked over a couple times to see it and show Jansen. They also have a ton of horses and carriages around there, so Jansen liked to say hello to those. We had to get a photo in front of the Alamo, but we decided to do something cuter than big smile faces.
Christmas morning was bliss. Jansen was so excited! He loved opening presents and got so excited at each of them. It was one of the best Christmas experiences that I have ever had. Seeing Christmas through a child’s eyes??? I already cannot wait until next year. We wanted him to take a picture with his stocking but he was too wired. This is the best we got!
My niece, Avery, turned 3 on December 29. It absolutely blows my mind that she is already 3 years old. On Saturday we celebrated her birthday and then had another Christmas with all of my dad’s side of the family. There was a brief moment when I was holding my baby niece, Mia, and Jansen was trying to get on my
lap and get my attention away from her. At that moment, I decided that Stephen and I will wait until Jansen is in college to start trying for baby number two. Kidding. Maybe. We had a great time. We busted out a small bouncy house that we were given several months ago. My MIL used to be a pre-school teacher and all of her students (and parents) were in love
with her. So every now and then, we inherit something that they are now too big for. This was a pretty sweet deal!
And that is my week in a very small nutshell. There is more of course. We went to the train museum, Stephen was sick for several days, Jansen got more trains, we had a Christmas with Stephen’s other sister and her husband, I got some great stuff, my sister moved out, I painted my nails several times, I ate a lot, and I had so much quality time with my little family. What a great way to end a bad year! Cheers to a wonderful 2013!
