They say “when it rains, it pours.” I don’t know who they are and I don’t know that I agree with them, but it’s pouring in Hurst Castle right about now.
And the weird thing is, I’m not freaking out. I think that some people call that growth.
We had a leak in our guest room shower. We use our guest room shower as our master shower because we had a major issue in our real master bathroom A YEAR AGO and we have yet to fix it. (Did you follow that?) The guest bathroom leak required that we dig into the tile. Fun, huh? So we decided to tear out all the tile and re-tile the whole shower. Seeing as it hadn’t been tiled since 1965, it was due. So yeah, it looks great but ugh.
It’s one thing to spend money on your house. It’s another to be required to spend money on your house.
On Friday morning, Stephen got in a car accident. He’s okay, thanks for asking. There was another accident several cars in front of him and he hit a car while avoiding a potentially awful wreck. It wasn’t terrible but still. We still aren’t sure how much it’s going to cost, we haven’t heard from the other guy yet. Stephen did a lot of skidding so his tires are in bad shape. We will be replacing those very soon.
Nice.
While I was at home on Friday, I was trying to get some laundry done. I heard the washer stop after only a few minutes. OH JOY, A BROKEN WASHING MACHINE. There is a loose connection, so it’s possible that Stephen can fix it. But this washer/dryer set isn’t new, so it’s very possible that it is a goner. We shall see!
In other money related news: We are planning a Disney trip for our 5 year anniversary, Houston summers are over 100 degrees, I have decided that it is VERY IMPORTANT that we get family photos done in the next month, weddings, weddings, wedding, and also mama wants new shoes and summer dresses!!!
But we are pressing on with big old smiles on our faces. Because you know what? Life doesn’t suck. It may cost a pretty penny, but it certainly doesn’t suck.
Here’s a picture of life not sucking. (Also, a glimpse of our new tile!)

Just bumps in the road. Thankful that Stephen is OK.
Required home repairs are awful. We have been saving $$ for months to replace windows on our dormers which allow leaking into the attic and then in Ethan’s room and the sewing/school room. In Ethan’s room it comes in through the ceiling fan. He ran out of there one day yelling that his fan was leaking…the fan was on and throwing water all over the walls like a sprinkler! Hilarious! It took me a long time to get to the point where I could laugh at something like that. You’re doing well to go with the flow.
I hate getting new tires. I know they are necessary, but after spending wads of money, can you show them off at a party? No-o-o! Can you buy a purse to match? Can you call your girlfriends and squeal “Guess what I just got?!” Can you wear them and wait for your friends to ask where you got them? No-o-o!!! Very unrewarding…but undoubtedly necessary. Sigh…….
The tile looks FANTASTIC. I’m sorry you’ve got money just running out of your house right now but you guys WILL bounce back. The fact that you’re both still realizing the important things shows definite growth….and speaks volumes about your character.
In conclusion, you’re rocking this!
Being an adult sucks some times! Hang in there!
Houston summers are 100 degrees??? Did you HAVE to put that in and remind me???? Hang in there…….God is in control – even of that crazy washer! (remember you live close and MY WASHER WORKS!)
“But we are pressing on with big old smiles on our faces. Because you know what? Life doesn’t suck. It may cost a pretty penny, but it certainly doesn’t suck.”
Amen! Thank you for this!
