One thing I am VERY MUCH looking forward to with Jansen is the phase where he starts saying awesomely hilarious things. We are getting there quicker than I though we would, though at this point it is more like, “Wait, how did he learn that?!”

You know that I've been reading the Harry Potter series. It's taking me forever. I only get to read a little at a time and I have 7 books to get through. I bought the box set of books and most of the covers look pretty similar. They all have a picture of Harry in a setting significant to the book, sometimes with other characters.

Jansen is very curious about my books. He likes to walk over to me and check out the cover. So I've been teaching him that “Harry” is on the front. Harry is a hard word for an almost 2 year old, so I didn't really expect him to say it back.

Last week he blew my mind. He came up to me while I was reading and closed my book. He pointe

d to the front and said, “He-ee.”

“Harry? Did you just say Harry?”

And he looked at me and said, “He-ee Pawer.” NOT KIDDING.

I was so proud of him and super excited. I thought it was slightly funny when he then said, “Jansen Pawer.” (Pronounced “Dindin.”)

This kiddo is so fun. I was super impressed with his new words. Just when I was overflowing with pride, he introduced two new words into our household.

“Mine.” WHO TAUGHT HIM THAT?!?!?!?!?!? Seriously. He's not in daycare. How did he learn that? We say, “This is mommy's.” etc., so I'm shocked that he has learned that word.

And maybe worse: “Mom.”

MOM? Really? NO WAY MAN. I am your mommy or your mama. You aren't even 2 yet, you don't need to be calling me MOM.

In the next few weeks, if I suddenly disappear from the blog, it's because I'm crouched in a corner, rocking back in forth since my child just called me mother.

This is so funny, Chelsea! Nora has always, always called Rebekah “mom”. I’ve tried to get her to say mama or mommy, but she won’t have it. It’s mom. period. Maybe it’s a conspiracy. Are you sure he’s not using the phone calling Nora while you’re asleep?

And Ethan used to say his name was Ethan Wade ________. Then we’d point to someone and ask him to say their name. We were Mommy Wade ________, Daddy Wade _______, Rebekah Wade __________. You get the picture. Everyone had the same middle and last name as his.

I don’t think “mine” has to be taught, unfortunately.
Now come away from the corner and go with the flow. 😉

Darby is there too. My husband and I will look at each other and say, “did she just say [whatever word or phrase]?!”
She’s now coming to us with short sentences (she’s a big fan of “No. I don’t want to” hahaha).
    It goes fast!

Topher calls me and Nathan Mom and Dad sometimes – he knows we don’t like it so he’ll say “Hi Mom!” and then giggle. It’s worse when he calls us by our first names …

I think I had this post on my mind the other day because I accidentally called my mom “mother”. She just looked at me like I was insane.
