We’ve been really lucky with Jansen. Minus the teething madness, an occasional fever, and the lump on his arm, he’s been a really healthy little kiddo. That has now changed.
We had big plans for our weekend. We were supposed to go to San Antonio to hang out with a friend of Stephen’s from high school. We were going to stay with Stephen’s cousin, his pregnant wife, and their daughter. We were VERY MUCH looking forward to our weekend.
Thursday night around 2:45 am, Jansen started screaming. I tried to ignore him, hoping he’d go back to sleep, but this wasn’t an ordinary scream. I decided I’d go into his room, help him find his binkie, and then go back to bed. I walked in there and stuck my hand in his crib, searching for the lost binkie. My hand didn’t hit mattress. It hit goo. My immediate thought was that it was poop. I hadn’t put PJ pants on Jansen that night for the FIRST time. So I thought that it was quite unfortunately that he learned to take off his diaper the night he had an explosive poop and no pants. But then the smell hit me. The nostril burning was not caused from poop. It was definitely throw up.
I turned on the light. OHHHH MYYY GOSH. It was everywhere. I got him out of bed, stripped him and his bed, and gave him a bath while he was screaming. Poor baby! I brought him back to our bed where he tossed and turned all night, occasionally waking up to ask for water.
The next morning went alright. He threw up twice but thankfully it was only liquid, and thankfully we were on tile. I thought that maybe it was all over. Nope.
The remainder of our weekend was not spent in SA with friends, it was spent changing diapers every hour.
It’s funny how you let go of all the rules when your child feels like crap. Remember when you were a kid and stayed home sick? You got to watch cartoons all day and eat pudding? Well it’s no different for toddlers. Since my poor little Jansen wasn’t feeling well, the rulebook went out the window. We watched tv and cuddled all weekend, he never got dressed unless it was jammies, and he got his binkie during the especially cuddly times.
What a sweet little cuddle bug! He was SO good all weekend, even though I know he couldn’t have been feeling good. The only time he fussed was when I changed his diaper for the 35th time on Friday. His poor little hiney was so red, it just broke my heart. He’d scream, “No Mommy no!!!” It was awful.
I believe we’re on the mend though. He’s been drinking Pedialyte like a champ and eating pancakes and crackers non-stop. He’ll be back to new before we know it!
Can I just say that I’m amazed that my baby can take this beautiful of a photo when he’s crabby and sick?
